It is my desire and what I feel to be my life’s purpose to spread awareness of and advocate for those suffering with mental illness, eating disorders and suicidal ideation. Unfortunately, I understand all of them all too well. After having spent over 150 days in both in-patient and residential treatment settings since 2011, I have grown and learned so much that I want to reduce the stigma that goes along with these disorders. I have survived a lifetime of Major Depressive Disorder, Bulimia, Anxiety, Addiction and multiple suicide attempts.
I am a survivor. I want to help people better understand mental illnesses and lead them in the direction towards healing so that they, too, can be survivors. I want them to know that they are not alone.
Life experiences, coupled with my education in psychology and counseling, have given me the knowledge, desire, and passion to advocate for mental health awareness. It has also enabled me to help educate people on many mental health disorders. My passion is in my work- devoting my life to lessening the stigma surrounding mental illness and speaking to share my story, in hopes of not only educating, but also providing inspiration for others to seek professional help.
I recently completed writing my first book about my personal struggles with mental illness, as well as working in my community to increase awareness and teaching others how to reach out for help so they can live their lives to the fullest.
I have also worked with the National Eating Disorders Association counseling women and helping them seek treatment as well as providing resources and information for patients, family and friends.
I am available for interviews, speaking and educational events. Whether it is sharing my personal experiences with eating disorders, mental illnesses and stigma or educating and informing others on the types of illnesses that are out there, I am willing to accommodate your needs. I have done interviews for TV, newspaper and spoken at seminars, meetings and luncheons. I speak as a non-clinical professional to share my story and what it is like from the patient’s perspective in the world of mental health.
